[Avid-L2] Re: "Source" icon missing suffix, AAF metadata wont linked to essence in Resolve 9

"The "Tape" name column in the Avid is always an exact name match to the "Source"
icon name.("Source File" column can differ from the "Source" icon name, and
Video Mixdowns appear differently in the Avid).

The Avid can take more then a few steps to link to new file masters. Plus, AMA
will randomly unlink clips, and on playback the Avid might not tell me an error
happened like stuttered/repeated frames. That is why I found that Resolve 7,8,9
can conform just using the given metadata that is populated in the "Tape" name
column in the Avid. And like I said in the Avid the "Tape" name column is always
an exact match as the "Source" icon name, with the exception of how video
mixdowns appear in a bin."

This is where I've had different results in my Avid to Resolve project. The tape name for the Red Epic files was generated in Avid by adding a tape name to the ama'd Red Epic clips and those were not the same as the Reel Name embedded in the Red Epic files. This made it necessary in Resolve to populate the media pool with all the Red Epic files first and then manually add the same tape names that had been added in Avid before conforming the sequence. This was our first crack at the Red Raw workflow and many mistakes were made that we will avoid repeating.

In the future our plan is to take the Red Raw files into Resolve and using the assist with Reel names based on the embedded Reel Names in the Red Raw clips. Once that is done we can export Avid DNX 45 offline media that should have the tape name match the Red Raw files embedded Reel Name. I believe that will make things jive better.

Unfortunately the ama linking to these very long, over an hour clips, seems to be problematic at best in Avid. So I think we will be better off using Resolve to do the initial downconvert transcodes. I'm curious in your workflow does the offline media have Tape Names that match the embedded Red Raw Reel Names?
