I couldn't help it... I had to do it... I sourced a video mixdown. This video mixdown can be consolidated too. I would not recommend this to anyone. I had to do it. I had to break that non-timecode Avid link. I had to link up the video mixdown to TC.
I output an AAF using
1) Create a video mixdown
2) Make a sequence that only contains the video mixdown master clip
3) Select the sequence that contains 1 video mixdown master clip - the sequence gives the AAF a timecode track to use with the video mixdown.
4) Export Method: Link to (Don't Export) Media
5) In Resolve 9 Import AAF to timeline in the "CONFORM" suite
6) In the "Load AAF..." window activate by putting a check mark next to Automatically set project settings and Automatically import source clips into media pool
The video mixdown appears on the Resolve Timeline
7) In the "CONFORM" suite in the upper right area is the "Timelines" window. Yes, I imported an AAF, but Resolve 9 has an Icon that says "XML" and next to "XML" icon is the name of the AAF Timeline. Right click on the XML icon.
8) From the contextual menu choose "Export">"Generate New AAF..."
The "Export Timeline" window appears.
9) Save that AAF - note the name I give this AAF is by default the name of the source that is given to the video mixdown master clip
Go back to the Avid and move the video mixdown into its own bin. I would close all other bins.
10) Import the AAF into that bin.
11) The video mixdown can now be sourced using the "Clip" menu > "Modify.."
The "Modify" wndow appears
12) Choose "Set Source"
13) By default the video mixdown master clip was given the "Tape" name of the AAF, I made a new tape name and selected it
14) I would not want to leave this video mixdown with a 00:00:00:00 timecode to really separate it from a video mixdown in the Avid's linking world.
click on the "Start" timecode column and change it to something not 00:00:00:00
15) consolidate the video mixdown to make a new .mxf file that seems to be acting independently then video mixdowns.
The Resolve 9 Reel Number preferences used for the above work:
Master Project Settings - "Conform Options" - Use Timecode: Activate Embedded in the source clip
