Re: [Avid-L2] Xdcam to Avid Workflow Prod to post

Done it a few times.

Productions I did were not backed up by the client. So what I did was hook up an U1 or U2 disk reader, AMA-link, Consolidate, which gave me an Avid-wrapped Open Atom copy of each disc's content. Then transcoded the XDCAMHD-50 masterclips to DNxHD185 on another drive. Shelved the consolidated media as backup, sent the optical source disks to production. Cut using the DNxHD185 files, as that enabled me to work in DNxHD185 all the time (renders, other imports), and do a DNxHD185 export at the end (grading facility requested we deliver in 185).

His theory is it's easier and cheaper than with Xdcam. What is the real workflow from Prod to post? Is it, shoot to Disk take disk out and ingest into Avid AMA via deck? Do people clone the disks in the field? if so what hardware are they using to do this with?
