Freezing may not work depending on how old the drive is.

If it is fairly new, say less than 3 years old, and has the click of death; you may need to send it off for data recovery.

There are a whole slew of Western Digital drives that simply stop working. They also fixed it so that you can't swap controller cards from one drive to another.
