Look, I'm not defending ProRes as the best there can be, but the gamma shift issue is purely a QT issue and not a ProRes issue, per se. Most of the time it happens because of how QT interprets a file or how a third party app does so when it passes through the QT engine to get the job done. There are even diffences between versions of QT and versions of the OS itself. Even Apple is backing away from QT as a video engine.
Nevertheless, ProRes, closely followed by H264 are the two most common deliverables I run into FOR BROADCAST. I have sent material to be graded by some top DI shops in LA and all they wanted was QT (ProRes or uncompressed) files and an EDL. Nothing even remotely Avid-friendly was of any interest.
