Here's my "you never know" story....
Shooting at the local toy train museum (we're near Strasburg PA). Got
cool pictures of new toy train box car. Box cars have a cool band logo
on them. Grip knows the lead singer in the band, which is from
Washington DC, and very protective of commercial uses of their logo. He
happens to run into the lead singer and mentions that he loves the use
of the logo on a toy. Lead singer says "What Toy?"
Turns out the graphic artist saw the logo spray painted on a bridge and
thought it looked cool. Never checked for copyright ownership.
Fortunately for him, the band liked the product, and their price was
that they each got a new train set. 5 train sets. The artist got off
cheap. Very cheap.
I use this story a lot when asked to use copyrighted music, pictures,
but my point being, you never know how those connections will be made.....
