I have a 10 year old parallel port dongle. Can't seem to find the thunderbolt adapter for that.

Don't you already have a dongle from your previous system. Ife so why not keep the dongle which makes moving from one system to the other quicker in my opinion. I would think your old system had a dongle which should be updateable although there was some talk that some dongles are just to old. Or that might have been something my wife told me. I think it was mentioned in a recent thread though.
