I just threw in the title and first paragraph since it had become a bit of a hot topic locally right after NAB. 

The sentence after your quote which is the last sentence in the article   says a lot to me:  "Rovi says it expects to see additional gains for the HEVC SDK, doubling efficiencies from the current 20 percent gains, as it further optimizes its HEVC codec."   That would be 50 - 60%.

 A t many of the SIGGRAPH conferences I have gone to, filmmakers point out that they had to wait for hardware capabilities  to catch up to their ideas.   I willing to let something render over night if the end product is noticeably better.

You left out this little tidbit from the article:

"H.265 certainly holds promise, but as pointed out in recent StreamingMedia.com articles on H.265, c and the computational cost of decoding is significantly higher."
