I'm using Camtasia Studio (Windows).
"Import Media" (CTRL-i) to bring in .camrec files. I assume it is the same or similar in the OSX version.
.camproj is the Camtasia project file.

Subject: [Avid-L2] OT: Camtasia "camrec" files
L-ers,
Anyone have experience with Camtasia? I have recorded some screen
captures with it in the past.
But in this case I have received several ".camrec" files from a client
and can't get them to load in a trial version of Camtasia I just
downloaded. The error I get says something like "can't open document
format".
Is the camrec file equivalent to a project file in an NLE, where there
needs to be some media that it points to? Is there another file name
extension I can change these to? Any other ideas?
