No Steve, this affects all imported still graphics regardless of file type.
They all get processed through the title tool, which adds the filter. You
can get around it by making a QuickTime movie, as imported movies are not
processed that way.
You probably never noticed the softness, as its very minimal...however, if
you import a graphic made in software that already antialiases, you end up
with double anti-aliasing..which ends up looking quite blurry. You would
also see the softness change if you needed to cut from a Quicktime movie to
a still graphic of the same image (a countdown clock that freezes at a
certain number, for instance).
