We rarely work in 720, but often deliver. Most typically it's a dub. A
few times lately, though, I've had to convert 23.98p to 720/59.94p to
integrate into existing 720 material. I know, we all hate 720, but I'm
not in a position to dictate the delivery format.
When converted using a tape deck, 23.98 to 720 is beautiful - and it
converts BACK to 23.98 pretty nicely, too, just the same way you'd
convert film transferred to SD- determining and extracting the 3:2
pulldown.
HOWEVER, there is not an 'insert 3:2 pulldown' in the motion effect in a
59.94 project. Even though there are no fields, the 'P' sequence would
be the same - and that's what Sony decks and the like do when converting
23.98 to 59.94p (repeat frames in the same order as field pulldowns
would be.)
How the heck do you get proper motion in a 720/59.94 project when using
a 23.98 source on your timeline??? I get decent results by switching
the motion effect to 'both fields' instead of the worthless default
'blended interpolated,' but it's still not QUITE right. Anyone?
