To add, ANY qt compatible encoder can transcode to ProRes (if the codecs are
installed) and DNxHD (if the codecs are installed)
applescript will do the job.
However, it will be QT, so it's either AMA or fast import.
To get around that, there is still my Avid MXF creator. (that's due to an
update, working on it as i write this).
It does not use Qt, and transcodes so there is no double disc space and no
import time.
Besides gamma trouble that might occur, there is also a quality difference
between encoders. But in most cases, speed goes before quality.

And you get Gamma-du-jour for free using that codec, whereas in-Avid
transcodes will preserve proper color levels.
