Dropping QTs into the MediaFiles folder is not going to do you any good, I don't believe (I might have to give this an exploratory attempt). They need to be indexed and have some way of linking to whatever it is that you're doing in a bin. You can definitely drop MXFs from other projects into another MediaFiles folder on another system (or as a way of bringing media on-line from an off-line drive or near-line archival solution. The indexer sees that there's something new in there and indexes (holding the system hostage until it's done). Then if there were already links to that media in some project or bin, you'll have instant access. Or you can use the Media Tool to find those files and drag them to a bin where they can be used for the edit.
