Your premise is that MC has been and is inherently a far better product
than FCP or Premiere, and thus should be worth far more money. The
market doesn't bear that out and hasn't for a long time. My personal
experience doesn't bear that out - and that's coming from someone who
prefers Avid.
MC became over priced when a competitor - or now multiple competitors -
could do very nearly the same thing for far less money. Whypay a massive
premium for a product that only has at best a slight performance
advantage in only some areas - and an actual disadvantage in
others?That's a foolish business decision.
Maybe the car comparison you would like better would be that of a
beautiful, hand crafted Stanly Steamer. Stanly was killed off by mass
produced Ford Model T's which did very nearly the same thing for far
less money and hassle. Stanly didn't innovate to compete, and they
couldn't compete on price. They went out of business.
Toyota is no longer producing a better car than Hundi or Kia, or for
that matter any one of a number of auto makers. Toyota either needs to
innovate and become better and obtain a higher perceived value, compete
on price, or get out of the market. Those are their only choices. The
market has shown that it will no longer pay more for a Toyota Camery -
or for Media Composer.
