I think that also comes down to the tools and expertise that general calibrators have. Not every calibrator has a Minolta (or comparable) probe. Not every calibrator can look at the numbers from their probe, look at the display, and say "Something is not right here". Those that can will forget what the meter says and set the display to what it should look like, or what the customer expects it to look like, reconcile the differences, etc.
If you are unable or unwilling to send your monitor to FSI for recalibration, talk with them. The facility I work at once arranged for an FSI technician to come to our shop and do the calibration work at the studio. FSI might also know of a worthy calibrator that they trust to do this work in lieu of one of their own technicians.
The facility I work at is a happy customer of FSI.
