Got a request to help trouble shoot a work flow that started with an Avid Bin of clips of .mxf Avid media. The clips were exported from the bin as prores and the clips were used to edit promo type stuff. I'm sketchy on all the details but my understanding is that they have used automatic duck to get the edited sequences back to Avid but are having a hard time relinking to the Avid media. I was told the tape names were maintained through this round trip although I'm not sure how. I suggested the usual tricks to get sequences to relink. Does anybody have experience with such a work flow or a suggestion as to how to proceed in the future. I'm told they are finishing in Avid but the offline editors are only comfortable with FCP 7 I assume. Is it possible that Automatic Duck could be used with FCPX? I'm aware of the basic premise of Automatic Duck to go from FCP 7 back to Avid and I suggested the process where AMA linking but they don't want
to use the prores files but rather the original Avid Media files. I'm hoping I can brute force a relink by decomposing the aaf'd sequence and modifying the resulting clips to have matching reel names to the original Avid bin of clips but I won't know till I set in front of the machine what I'm actually dealing with. Is there a elegant way of taking a bin of Avid clips linked to Avid .mxf and export that bin to be used in FCP 7 in such a way as to reliable be able to auto duck back to Avid and at least relink to the original Avid media? I'm cross posting to see what people have experience with. Of course the most logical solution would be to have the offline folks work in Avid but I've been initially told they offline folks are only comfortable in FCP 7. And when I say FCP 7 that's my assumption based on the use of Automatic Duck but I will learn more tomorrow on site. In the mean time I welcome any potential solutions and suggestions to a
better way to approach this in the future. TIA
