Found back my notes:
Avid (this was tested on a 5.0x) takes the foldenames into account (let's
call it Reel)
This is the rootfolder of the clip. (in case of clips from a supported
system (eg, XDcam / P2),
it takes the top folder the image resides in.
If that foldername stays intact, even with same filenames Avid will relink
correct.
And i was wrong, relinking sequences to new imported AMA masterclips is no
problem.
(note, this is from a manual i wrote 3 months a go, have not tested it
today.)

It's sure good to hear that 6.5 has better relinking options!
