Re: [Avid-L2] Uh, why can't you map a black locator?

Hi Paul,

I got a very helpful reply from Tina VanRoggen at Avid, who explained why this was happening. Here it is below:

Hi Shirley-

I bet you are using a dark interface setting so that your text is a lighter color than the background, and probably the others are using a lighter background with black text. So they are seeing a black icon on that command palette button and you're seeing a color similar to the lighter text color. Am I right?

What is happening is this: our 6.0.x graphics have a couple special colors in them. When you switch from a dark background to a light background or vice-versa, we go through the icons and swap out these special colors so that you can see your icons. We do likewise for the text color.

I think what is happening is that the black marker/locator icon is using the special color in the interior, so it is getting swapped out when using the darker background. But, if we kept it black, it might be very hard to see on the dark background.

Let me know if my guess is right. In any case, the marker should be black when you apply it.

Hi Shirley,

I just noticed this same thing on my instructor station last week. When I first
responded, I was at my personal unit. It is very strange to see.

Best Wishes,

Paul Sulsky

MC v6.0.3/OSX 10.7.2

There are eight locator colors, and eight locator colors available in the "More"
pane of the Command Palette, except that one of them is this weird gray, instead
of black. Come one. Really? You'd think the relationship of available locator
colors and mappable colored locator buttons would be one-to-one. This doesn't
make any sense.

Can anybody else out there map a black locator in this MC version?

Shirley
