Re: [Avid-L2] Preferred 3rd party I/O?

If you're considering using an AJA device with Media Composer, then I
wonder why you have the 3G and not the iOExpress in your list. What does
the 3G do in a MC environment that the iOExpress does not?

OK, the 3G gets you an additional set of SDI outputs, configurable also to
dual-link. Is this useful in your setup? I asked myself and found that no,
for me, it wasn't. The 3G gives you AES I/O. Same question, same answer for
me. The 3G can do up/down/cross conversion on the card with ease, but as
far as I'm aware, in MC, none of those things are relevant because MC
controls what's being output through the 3rd party I/O, not the KONA
control panel.

The iOExpress is way cheaper, but it still gives SDI I/O, analog monitoring
(2-channel), RS-422, genlock input - all the things that I needed for my MC
setup. And it's been solid.

Just throwing it out there, since the others on your list are roughly in
the same ballpark as the iOExpress, while the 3G may be overkill.
