[Avid-L2] OT:MicroBoards DVD duplication setup and copy protection?

Trying to copy a DVD of my daughter's dance recital I found I could make a disk image on my iMac but it wouldn't burn.  There are two DVDs and the second one wouldn't make a disk image after multiple attempts it would error.  I don't think there is any copy protection involved but I brought the dvds to work where we have a microboards setup, not sure of the model.  It seemed to make the copies just fine.  Perhaps it's just a format compatibility with the DVD drive in my iMac or could there be copy protection that the microboards doesn't register.  Do microboards and other DVD duplication setups bypass copy protection?  Just curious I wouldn't think they would but I haven't focused on DRM on DVDs.
