[Avid-L2] Editor rates in your area?

Hi,

I've decided that it's time to turn to the ample resources of this list to explore what other editors like me charge. I realize this question can be a delicate one, so I'm not asking anyone to share with me what they themselves make, just what you understand to be commonly accepted rates in your area. And if you chose to respond, I leave it up to you whether you wish to get back to me via the L, or offlist, if that is more comfortable. And I will only direct this inquiry to US editors, since there's probably not too much point in attempting to decipher international rates.

If you do respond, I'd like to know to which markets these rates apply. And I'm looking for rates for the following kinds of work, whether by the hour, day (8 or 10 hour), or week:

1) Documentary offline
2) Documentary online
3) Cable broadcast offline, i.e., History Channel, Discovery, and the like
4) Cable broadcast online
5) Advertising offline (real broadcast, not web pieces)
6) Advertising online

So you have some idea of my background, I've been in the industry over 30 years, have pretty diverse offline/online experience that includes the brackets listed above, as well as long and short form broadcast work for the local PBS affiliate, corporate, and public interest media. I would consider myself part of the "upper middle" of senior editing professionals in my area, certainly not a household word anywhere away from home, but enough of a known quantity in my own market that 95% of my work is referral from other happy customers.

Many thanks in advance for any information you can share!

Best,
Shirley
