Some may recall my Red workflow quadries a while back for a multicamera stage shoot. I realize it isn't really the right tool for the job but I have to accommodate this production decision. After testing etc... with Red One footage the ama workflow seems the best for us. Today they said they are now shooting with the Epic. Just how far do I have to bend over? IIRC Epic footage will only work with Avid V6 as the ama Red plugin for 5.5 doesn't handle Epic footage. We are being told that the Red One cameras with the MX chip do not support the external Raw Data recorder, this sounds completely wrong to me as I can see all kinds of external packs for Red Ones on the Red site. Is this true about external recorders? We will have to shoot around 90 minutes straight without stopping hence the external recorders. We already tested a workable Red One workflow and now they think Epic is the way to go. I've mostly heard of a lot of headaches from
Epic at this stage. I've also been told with the Red One it would be nice to shoot double HD Frame size of 3840x2160 instead of 4K to eliminate the need to crop the frame. We are delivering HDCam or HDCamSR so it will ultimately be HD. Would the 3840x2160 setting be available on Epic. This will be a multicam edit offline which we will ama link and transcode to SD for offline. Shooting 29.97P I guess. Someone please help me convince these people I don't need an Epic enema the Red One will be enough of a pain in the arse. ;-) TIA
