The problem is, people are still watching on older sets.
ABC is making a big deal of rejecting shows for white spikes that happen at the very edge of the frame. When you have a bright shot that transitions to the black in blanking and the transition is too sharp it adds a spike. Since this is outside of active picture, legalizers don't touch it.
ABC is claiming they are getting complaints from folks watching their analog sets.
Most folks are "fixing" it by dropping a 3D warp over their entire timeline and softening the edge by one or two pixels.This eliminates the spikes. (And is how the title tool avoids spiking BTW)
