From V.5 Avid manages in timeline both 709 and RGB color spaces. Before just 709 so it needed to change the RGB sources when importing, but no need from V.5.
I haven't found any image or video I need to import using RGB option since V.5 arrived. It's a shame this doesn't appear in any Avid doc, I discovered just trying and thinking.
From V.6 I always try to use Ama for files so I don't deal so that often with color spaces issues.
I hope this helps!
