This actually sounds like classic FCP design - sexy functionality hobbled by idiotic limitations placed on basic functionality.

Too bad it's almost impossible to edit with split-channel source audio in their
workflow. Cut it to a multi-cam project (timeline) and then you are stuck
without access to independent tracks in context of that sequence.
