[Avid-L2] OTish: Wireless Router suggestions?

 

My Netgear wireless router at home has died.  The front panel lights dimly twinkle but no wifi or ethernet connections are possible.  Power cycled but no luck.  Going to Fry's for a replacement.  Is there any new wiz bang extended standard I should look for?  I seem to recall a thread a while back that mentioned a new feature or standard in wifi that had better bandwidth.  TIA
