How is the video quality button down in the bottom left of the timeline set? Green? Yellow? Split?
Also, in an earlier answer to another thread, I think someone mentioned that there's an audio pre-roll or something that might help "build the pipes" properly for these playbacks. Like the old console playlength command that was later turned into a button.
Also, I would say that once you've gotten relatively close to your final, I would get out of AMA as fast as possible, transcoding the footage in the sequence to DNxHD. AMA is not for all day, every day editing. It's supposed to allow you to get in and get something done fast, but it was never intended for a big project to by in it for extended periods of editing... at least that's my understanding. AMA just gets really boggy. Think about what you're asking the Avid to do through AMA. You've got to transcode. It won't take that long. I try to do it the first night or the second night.
