Got an Email today that our first 4 episodes were rejected by APT for bad captioning; specifically, no 608 captions on our HD dubs. Trying to troubleshoot the problem before the tapes return tomorrow, but so far I'm stumped.
Symphony on Nitris DX, using an AAF file on a data track.
What we've checked:
The Sony HDW-F500 deck has Metadata set to CC, and the metadata lines are set L1=009, L2=000, DID=161, SDID=101, which jibed with CPC's recommendations and Sony tech support.
This is about mastering with an AAF file on a data track, but just to be complete:
media creation settings have mode set to SMPTE 436M, with slot 1 set to CEA708, slot 2 set to CEA608, slot 3 to AFD and 4 to ATC.
The console setting for embedding DNXCC shows everything set at default.
Symphony playback and a deck recording both show captions on a TVLogic LVM monitor when set to read 708 captions and when set to read 608 ancillary, but a Leader LV7700 scope shows 708 sort-of-present (flickering between "detected" and "missing") and 608 "missing". This is with the show's AAF file and with CPC's test AAF file. So now I have some indication that something is wrong, but what?
I know troubleshooting a dub without having the dub in hand isn't a good idea, but I hope to figure this out and not blow the delivery schedule. Any suggestions? Deck settings? WAGs?
