Panasonic DVCPro tapes come in three colors, with the color indicating the length of the tape based on a format.
Yellow = DVCPro (Large and Medium sizes)
Blue=DVCPro50 (Medium size) The Blue lids have been discontinued.
Red (Large and Extra Large sizes) =DVCProHD
All tapes are the same formulation, so any cassette can be used in any device for any format as long as you can get it into the machine. A 126 yellow is roughly two hours in a DVCPro recorder, but one-hour in a DVCPro50.
When we had a Varicam (stolen), the longest load was 46 min with a 92LP blue lid cassette. But, we usually shot 33 min with a 126L (Large yellow lid).
Now, we have 900's. Longest load is 33 in using a 66MP (Medium yellow lid). AFAIK, there is not a one-hour load available.
The largest DVCPro100 load is two hours with the 126EXG (XL Red). Only the 1700 will accept this extra large cassette. The 1400/1200 will take Medium and Large size cassettes.

Seems like the medium size fits in HDX-900 and the Varicam but only yields 33 minutes depending on frame rate. There is an LP mode listed which must relate to the track pitch change that caused compatibility issues for earlier models of the 1200. IIRC Once there was a 1200A it handled the lp mode tape's as well. I see we have some 1400 decks but I don't see the A. I thought all the 1400's were compatible with the lp tape format. Can anyone confirm.
