[Avid-L2] Sorenson 8

 

What does this mean?
"Sorenson Squeeze 7.0.1 will ship with Avid products, but 8.0 will also be supported and will not require a new serial number."
 
I assume I will have to pay for the upgrade. But what does "will not require a new serial number" mean? Why would I need a new SN?
