[Avid-L2] Re: AVCHD importing

Not sure the 12T raid is the problem the imports are going so slowly, but if you only have a dozenish gigs left and 50 clips to go, it doesn't sound like you'll have enough space - and you don't want to crowd the raid because it will likely choke - same as with a unity. always a good idea to leave 15% of capacity free if you can help it.

what resolution are you bringing these clips in at? if you're bringing them in at dnx 220, each 5 minute clip is going to take
quite a while - and you're also going choke the raid in no time.
if you're importing at an offline rez you'll obviously have more room; you should check the file size.

i've regularly had to import lots of different media, and the only rule i can pass along is that the higher resolution imports take
disproportionately longer. the size of the original files is also
a factor. 20-30 minutes for a five minute clip though is what I
might expect. not all night.

I'm using ShotPut to copy all of the files from the cards to the RAID, then I'm opening a project in Avid MC 5.x (not 5.5) and importing... digging directly down into the folder structure to the individual clips. I started this last night and have 2 clips done and am half way through a third. I have 53 clips total from a day long shoot... I'm guessing most of the clips are about 5 minutes each... some much shorter. Very few longer than 5 minutes.
