Re: [Avid-L2] NanoFlash n Avid Major Issues

Hi Andi,
I'm not sure what they mean by soft footage so I will be making a house call to figure that issue out. I will check for the RGB dithered. I hadn't though about that one maybe that will resolve at least the soft issue.

Hi Jason,

The MXF's created by the nano are Op1A not OPAtom, so they are not the
Avid flavour of MXF they have interleaved audio and video I believe, so
you will always have to import unless you are on a newer version which i
believe can AMA these MXFs in. The buffer underrun error that Greg is
referring to is a result of using Long GOP recording at higher datarates (above 50Mbps) i think, shooting I-frame will solve this problem. Never had the problem of soft footage, are you sure they're not viewing it in green/yellow or something weird like that? check the import settings, maybe they have it on RGB dithered which adds a small amount of defocus?

It looked good in pause but would stall after playing a little bit - I don't recall the wording exactly, but it's like... buffer underrun. I won't be much help to you because I haven't run into the problem for probably 6 months... Transcoding was my solution; I didn't notice a loss of resolution - but we typically deliver on SD, at the client's request, so I probably wouldnt of noticed a mild softening on the jobs I'm thinking of.

They are now telling me that when the footage is brought in natively and transcoded to DNXHD 145 it's "soft" when compared to the backup DVCPRO HD tapes. They have spent weeks trying to resolve getting the footage in correctly and I am going to make a house call to figure out what the problem is. They've even contacted the Convergent Design and they have kinda of blown off the Avid workflow saying that .mov's are better. I wish I knew this prior to the shoot. My previous experience with this device was always with FCP where we used .mov's and I've never had a problem with it. I decided it would be easier to shoot MXF in this case because the files should go into Avid natively without issues. Boy was I wrong.
