No offense meant, but the sad fact of the matter is that I don't see minor tweaks on the edges of Media Composer as really growing the base very much.
Not only is the user base not growing, but the type of TV work historically dominated by Media Composer users is also shrinking. No matter how cool the tools are, like PhraseFind for things like reality TV, we all know that more reality TV also means more systems that aren't Media Composer. More video on the web versus video on traditional TV screens does not mean more Media Composer. As Avid plays out its hand for the cloud, you can bet that the interface won't be Media Composer.
That puts Avid in a pretty bad spot. Look at the sort of uproar these relatively minor cosmetic changes (MC5 onward) have caused. What do you think a true overhaul would result in?
