I don't think you can do it in Marquee - no blur or defocus other than drop
shadow I think - I recall asking at some point.

Thank you Joyce, but I may not have been clear in what I¹m asking. I want a
fade on and off at the top and bottom of the screen on the title roll.
Currently, I paste the background on top of the roll with a wipe to achieve
this, but I thought there must be a way to soften the edges of the Marquee
text box itself. It may not be possible.
