I'm rather a fan of the Chris rants too, and I think they're accurate as to Symphony's limitations and general lack of development. But of course, Terry's strong connection to the company and broad knowledge of the industry are incredibly valuable to me as well. These two guys are good examples of why this list is such an amazing resource. The more they argue, the more I learn.

I for one like the rants Chris. I got my Symphony about the same time you did
and your arguments and frustration are certainly shared. Symphony is still a
great finishing tool for most TV and even HD theatrical situations. Mainly for
straight ahead color correction. Since Avid bought DS, I've become quite a DS
head though. I still love cutting on Avid but get quite frustrated with basic
compositing, stills moves (pan and scan is still a joke and Moving Picture is
good only until you need to composite your stills with other elements) and
graphics. Just today I made a title in title tool and noticed how soft it
looked. That is unacceptable. I am looking forward to our 5.5 upgrade next
week.
