Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Hopeful news for Symphony

Yes but Terence, nice doesn't always equal capable.

Think this gets lost in criticism of a company or product.

I am sure most, if not all, of the staff at Avid are great fellas and ladies.
The sort you would like to have a beer or glass of wine with. They like
sunshine, puppy dogs, loli-pops and rainbows. Many are smart, many are
dedicated. That doesn't always create results.

Those are individual parts. Sometimes organizations don't quite know how or for
some reason can't become a sum of those parts.

So as a disclaimer, my criticism is directed at institutional issues, abilities
and problems. Not people.

Remember this is the same "new" company that dumped resources into smart tools
rather than more pressing issues. And personally I think the company has
misplayed quite a few hands lately. I really don't see a whole lot of great
stuff from the past few years.

I wish them to not misplay any more hands. That is why I think they have to kill
Symphony. The alternative is fixing a lot of problems FAST and developing some
value infused additions FAST.

That is a tall order for any firm.

If they do it, I'll be first in line with a check ready.

Faith in the current engineering team and company management. Again, look at the
last few years, not the history we are all painfully aware of.

Here is a small example of the difference in the current management. The CEO was
booked to do Editors' Lounge a few months back. Of course his calendar has
fleshed out since then. So, he was in California on Wednesday for another
customer. Then back in NY Thursday AM for an investor thing, then back to LA on
Friday for the Editors' Lounge to talk to editors face to face. Then a red eye
back East Friday night. Can you imagine any of the past CEOs of Avid doing that
to make sure they are hearing their customers directly? Know any other NLE CEOs
like that?
