So... where is DS now? I was looking at the software version, but was unable to make a recommendation. Number one there are Red workflow problems with 50 fps timecode, and number two, more importantly, I did not see any sort of enthusiasm or promotion by Avid. I got the impression of a complete lack of interest in DS development on Avids part and the price drop looked more like a dumping move.
Even at the lower price DS is still a substantial investment not only in money but also in the time to become proficent and sorting out workflow issues.
The perceived lack of interest on Avids part is really unfortunate, it seems DS would be well positioned as a finishing tool in the "below Quantel" bracket.

PS. its 6 months later and the 50fps timecode issue with Red footage is still not fixed. For me this is a workflow killer. The lack of product development and support has me concerned.

I also believe that the difficulties in getting DS fully integrated, along with blowback from customers who didn't want to retrain their workforce, led to Avid reconsidering the Symphony for HD.
