Hi all,
Thanks for the tips so far.
My client wound up calling Avid last night and had them reload the AJA driver. They also suggested re-seating the card. None of this seemed to help. I was unaware until this morning that they were also getting a video sync signal error which they read to Avid last night:
" A video sync signal has not been detected from the capture source. This can cause time code drift for long clips. Please make sure your blackburst generator is connected to all decks and any V-LAN/VLXi routers."
Avid's response was that you should not need a ref generator and click Ignore always.
I made a house call this morning and I checked to make sure the deck was set to 24 for the Timecode sense. Then tried loading and that's when I discovered the above message. My gut say's get a ref generator and all will work. Wouldn't this make sense? Why would support say you don't need it if the machine is asking for it?
I did check to make sure Avid was looking at internal as well as the deck just for fun.

Manually choose the Sony HDW F500 24p deck template and it should work.

Sounds like the F500 has time code sense set wrong and it is seen as a 29.97/59.94 deck. Not all F500s have the time code sense in the menu. It depends on if it has been updated to provide the feature. Sounds like what happens with a 5500 when time code sense menu item A-10 on an SRW-5500 is set wrong.

If you want to donate to Red Cross quake relief, you can do so through your cell phone. Text redcross to 90999 to make a $10 donation. It will be on your next cell bill.
