Re: [Avid-L2] [OT]: Earthquake relief T-shirts

Thanks for posting that, Jeff.

We got quite a good dose of 'kibou' (hope) here today. They've
taken a lot of flack for the way the reactors have been handled,
but things are finally looking up. When the helicopters dumped
water on the things, it looked like an act of desperation to me.
But they just had a news conference saying it did what it was
supposed to -- fill the pool holding the removed rods. Radiation
is down. They also could finally get giant pump trucks through
all the debris on the roads, and they've got them constantly
pumping water on the reactors, and it's helping. "Cooling is
going well." And they are are very close to getting powered
restored to the plant, and are hoping to start the normal cooling
systems very soon!

On top of that, they were finally able to get a 40 tanker train
of gasoline up into the stricken area, and 4 tons of desperately
needed medicine (for all the people with diabetes, high blood
pressure, etc., that have been out of meds all week) got flown in
this evening -- on a US military plane, no less.

Hey, it's still very grim for the millions of people in the quake
zone, but it's like the first time the nation could stop holding
its breath and heave a sigh of relief.
