Hi Job,
Thanks for the PDF, but I still have some questions;
We deliver the grading always a Uncompressed SD or HD quicktime file.
This is made from a sequence in MC with most of the time different material like XDCAM HD, HDV, XDCAM EX and sometimes SD, etc, cause we do a lot of documentary stuff with archive.
Most of the time Same as Source export is not an option because of the long-gop material.
Because of the different kind of codecs, I see al lot of problems with colorspace and levels. Not only in RGB but also in 601/709.
I also had problems with artefacts created during the export. By example if you export a sequence with HDV shots to uncompressed Quicktime it looks messy. If you do a digital cut to FCP it will look much better.
Also if you try opening a uncompressed quicktime 601/709 in FCP it is interpereted the wrong way. It's like Avid doesn't put in the right Flag to tell quicktime it's 601/709.
So I don't understand how people get a decent quicktime out of AVID??
Since it's not always possible to create a Same as Source export or deliver a Avid codec to the grading I don't see any other way to deliver the grading anything without using FCP to capture trough HDSDI. Also transcoding material to one codec within the avid is not always the best way. Why transcoding XDCAM HD native material to DNxHD?

If you want to donate to Red Cross quake relief, you can do so through your cell phone. Text redcross to 90999 to make a $10 donation. It will be on your next cell bill.
