[Avid-L2] Re: DISK_DIR_NOT_FOUND after MC5.5.1 upgrade from 5.0.3.8

Thanks! I finally got the opportunity to get on the phone with tech support. It took a long while to get to the bottom of it, but the "aha" moment was when we did a little divide and conquer on the project folders. We started to realize that some folders were ok & didn't both MC whereas other folders caused problems.

It turns out that MC started to misbehave again during the troubleshooting when a legacy project with a special character (in this case, the forward slash) was put in play. Once the character was removed, MC behaved again. Seems that special characters that didn't matter previously now matter entirely. Fair enough, I probably shouldn't have used them to begin with, but it had let me, so I didn't think much of it at the time. I guess I've been around Macs for too long!. :)

So, come Monday, I have the task of doing some batch character replacement in my old projects that I still need to keep around. I expect that once that's done, everything will be ok again. I'll let you know on Monday.

After Avid went through all the startup things I would get no project window and the disk dir not found prompt. I did several reinstalls without success. Once I resolved the serial number issue I first deleted mcstate, site settings and the fontsubtxt. Then when I launched it was okay. Don't know if this is the same issue for you but worth a try. I'm on a MBP os 10.6.6.

I checked the permissions on the folders "Shared Avid Projects", the main client folder (which contains all the actual project folders for that client), and the actual MC project folders within, and all show that all permissions are Read And Write. (For example, the previously working file path was: ~/Shared/AvidMediaComposer/Shared Avid Projects/[client name Folder]/[MC project folders related to that client])

To add to the confusion, what I *can* do is copy any individual MC project folder directly into ~/daveharrison/Documents/Avid Projects, and with the Private radio button selected, I can load a project from there.

I've also tried removing the Avid Users folder and creating a brand new user, plus deleted the app's Site_Attributes, MCState, and Site Settings parts. At one point I even ditched the entire \Settings folder.

Help, please.
