Since this is a home-studio set-up, I would also concur that the MXO2 Mini would be a viable option. It's mainly a monitoring device and works with FCP and MC. Then you'll need an HDMI monitor. Plus you have the MAX option for accelerated H.264 encoding.
Probably like a lot of folks, it will make more sense to buy post house services (while they still exist) for tape ingest/output when FW isn't an option. That would be the cue for Terry and Greg and DSS ;-)
