I'm generally very pleased with Symphony 5 with only a couple of complaints.
I've been reading the complaints here regarding the lack of head and tail keyframes here with amusement since that was one of my first negative observations. It may seem small but it's a definite step backwards in functionality. Same with the messing-up of what was a perfectly good stabilizer. Why screw up a perfectly functional solution with something that takes ages to process and looks like catvomit? I dunno. I guess Smart Tools are OK for what they are, but I'd love the option to just turn them off before I cock up a sequence.
But my biggest complaint by far is the way that the app auto-saves after every Render. In online, it's not unusual for me to have a sequence that takes two or three minutes to save. So if my client wants to, say, resize a shot, it takes a few seconds to change and several minutes to save before I can Insert to tape. I'm spending a lot of time chatting up the client when I should be working and I'm quickly running out of interesting things to say. This is new behavior; on 3.9 Avid would auto-save after Render In To Out but not Render Effect. Sort of a drag. Am I missing a preference somewhere?
None of these are deal-breakers and I certainly wouldn't go back to an earlier version if I had the choice. 5 is way faster, way more stable, and generally way better, IMO, but I'd love to find a solution a least to keep it from auto-saving after every render.
