I'm not too familiar with L&T, but you can't immediately start cutting with it can you? You have to select what you want, transcode, then edit. With AMA you can view it, edit with it, etc...
For example, I used AMA to bring in 2 days of P2 footage (took about 30 seconds to populate the bin), then spent the rest of the day putting together a rough cut. Before I left for the night I set it to transcod. With L&T, you transcode first then edit, right?
