But actually, there was dialogue in the scene describing how spilt fuel, leaking gas and other fumes were throwing off the dogs. So they said in the scene, anyway.
And on a 5D note... watching the ep in HD, it was actually quite good. Still didn't have the richness of film but it was quite good.
