I've come to the conclusion that if we wait long enough we'll be
grading on iPads - both as control surface / UI *and* as reference
monitor. As for this whole "3D" thing, my feeling remains that once
everyone's used to the "glasses" part who really needs the monitors
anymore?

Granted, one of my most favorite things growing up was my View Master :)
