<<Not quite. If you pay attention they have always shown this technology with very careful treatment or selection of the material as well as the viewing environment. The technology does not work. I am not sure why they continue to push it. All you have to do is put-up a typical end-credit roll to see what I mean. Take a look at this explanation. We experimented with this technology about ten years ago. Built prototypes and discarded the idea as not usable for critical monitoring of any kind.
As you probably know, the concept uses modulated LEDs in the backlight to improve blacks. Check this out:
