Have tested it..
Output from FCP to a HVR 1500 (set up to loop CC trough), from there
composit to a CC compatible monitor.
Works.
No idea how the signal travels from the Mac to the Kona otherwise than
inside the video signal.
And again, i don't understand the sound channel...

I think it's not that Kona works, but that others do not work cause they
crop...

I've only used the Kona method, and it is handled by the Kona card in
tandem with FCP. I didn't know you could do it via firewire. Have you tested
this yet?
