I don't think it's really an issue of free, but rather an issue of appropriate cost. Few editors touch on any power in Photoshop past where the product was in version 6 or 7, yet they have to pay full bore for a current version. Adobe fails to offer something in between Elements and the full-blown version. How about something like an updated version of 7 in the $200-$300 range? This issue becomes worse when you have several machines to support.
