Pro Tools spews their "Digidesign Database" folders everywhere as
well, and it's a real PITA when they end up on network shares, etc.
because as long as PT is running they can't be unmounted. I think
those things even invade USB thumbdrives - but I'm not positive.
I think the reason a lot of these high-end editorial applications
behave like they're the only damned thing on the box is because that's
pretty much how things had to be when they were originally coded.
